Public sector and digital figures gain New Year’s Honours List success

Former BCS president and DWP programme director Ray Long becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath; techUK president Jacqueline de Rojas receives Commander of the Order of the British Empire award

The 2018 New Year’s Honours list contained awards for several influential figures from the public sector technology world.

Ray Long, a former BCS Chartered Institute for IT president, and lately Programme Director, in the Department for Work and Pensions’ Digital Group, becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to government and the public sector.

Jacqueline de Rojas, president of tech suppliers’ group techUK, becomes a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to International Trade in the technology industry. A similar award goes to Demis Hassibis, founder and chief executive of DeepMind, for services to science and technology.

Other awards go to Vinodka Murria who becomes an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the UK digital economy and advancing women in the software sector and for Bernard Parsons, co-founder and chief executive of security specialist Becrypt, who becomes a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to digital technology.
