MoD’s Azure engagement spurs new Cloud roles

Cloud Solutions Architect at £70K likely to be one of several new Bristol-based Cloud positions

 

The Ministry of Defence ‘s (MoD) decision to become one of Microsoft’s standout public sector reference sites for its Office 365 and Azure services seems to be spurring the creation of new Cloud roles.

The roles include a Cloud Solutions Architect position which has just been advertised on Civil Service Jobs. The position, at a salary of up to £70,000, Grade 7 B2, is a fixed term appointment for a maximum of 23 months with Bristol-based Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), which is part of the MoD, but which has a special Bespoke Trading Entity Status (BTE).

According to the job spec , the Chief Information Office team is embarking “on an exciting new phase and have created a number of new roles, including this Cloud Solutions Architect position.”

Responsibilities will include requirements analysis using structured techniques; designing and delivering ICT deliverables, including assurance of vendor delivery or through cloud services: management of a digital ideas pipeline; architectural modelling of complex systems; interoperability of DE&S service delivery platforms within MOD service delivery models; and representation of DE&S within MOD technical and architectural communities.

The spec says it is looking for an experienced Cloud Solutions Architect with In-depth Azure plus Office365 expertise; SaaS and PaaS expertise; a good knowledge of open source technologies and security in a Cloud environment, preferably with G-Cloud experience.  The role detail also says TOGAF certification will be a benefit. Other required experience is in formal systems lifecycle methodology, including Agile; virtualised and cloud deployment models using PaaS or IaaS services; and an ability to negotiate with and manage 3rd party SaaS and PaaS providers.

CVs are due to be sifted on January 5 2017 with interviews to be held at DE&S in Bristol between the 10th and 13th January 2017. The closing date for applications is Jan 3 2017.
