GDS outlines GaaP's potential for tech suppliers

GDS provided product roadmaps about its Government as a Platform ambitions, following on from its recent techUK market briefing

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has outlined Government as a Platform's (GaaP) potential commercial opportunities and benefits for tech suppliers.

It follows the recent briefing for tech suppliers held by techUK.

In a blog  post entitled, “How suppliers can benefit from Government as a Platform”, GDS’ Policy & Industry Lead for Government as a Platform, Richard Buttrey, said, "Rather than have suppliers re-invent or integrate third-party components as part of their work for government, we want to help them use GOV.UK Verify, GOV.UK Pay, GOV.UK Notify, GOV.UK Platform as a Service and code (like the location picker based on authoritative registers) instead".

"We’ve already processed almost 400,000 payments, sent millions of messages and verified more than 1.3 million accounts, but we’re still working to iterate and improve our offering." Buttrey added.

GDS announced that the procurement needs of government service teams will change alongside with the increase of GaaP components's adoption. Hence, it will start to update the Digital Marketplace to reflect GaaP's offer.

"All our components have been through a robust information assurance process and are approved for government use by the Cabinet Office Senior Information Risk Officer (SIRO). Of course, they are also built to meet the requirements of the Digital Service Standard so suppliers can be confident that using them will help services pass through both Spend Controls and Service Assessments," the blog said.

GDS pledged to publish shortly details of its service level commitments on operational resilience and support. The current technical documentation on software libraries and APIs is now available at the Service Toolkit page .
