£80k role will play a central role in implementing the government’s priorities for delivery of its Transformation Strategy and digital/data manifesto commitments

The Government Digital Service (GDS) is looking for a Head of the Strategy and Economics team to lead and manage a central GDS policy team to set the future strategy for government digital transformation.

The new role will support the GDS team to join up and develop relationships across Cabinet Office, in preparing for a future spending round across government and help translating the government’s priorities into action.

The Head of the Strategy and Economics team will work collaboratively across departments to prioritise, plan and identify new actions to address gaps in implementation of the Government’s Transformation Strategy.

The new post will work with the Director team to shape GDS’s policy and broader response to the demands that Brexit places on departmental programmes and plans. This will include providing advisory to senior GDS leaders and to the chief executive of the civil service, John Manzoni, to help shape, implement and review how GDS supports departmental planning and assurance for Brexit.

The new strategy head is also expected to play a proactive role in forging strong links with other key teams in the centre of government, particularly the Infrastructure and Projects Authority as well as other functional experts in Cabinet Office and HM Treasury spend team.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate highly developed policy and strategic analysis skills, sound political judgement and a track record of operating with credibility across the big picture and legislative/policy details.

Applications close on November 16 with interviews commencing on December 3.
