£110 role will be reasonable for building common platforms and open APIs to be used across DWP and available across and beyond government

Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is  looking for  Head of Integration Technologies to build reusable solutions that transform DWP services and open up opportunities for re-use across and beyond government services.

DWP Digital manages more than 330 major critical application systems that support core business services as well as many services across Local and Central Government. There are currently about 42 very different technology platforms used for integration across DWP and these are a cornerstone for the delivery of DWP’s services.

These systems and services use a variety of ever-evolving integration and data transfer technologies to enable interoperability across DWP systems and beyond across government and banking services. They are at different levels of maturity and with different security standards - some handle files, some messages, and some both. This provides a big challenge with cost, reliability and suitability for DWP’s new digital services. DWP is transitioning and transforming these to a small number of core integration capabilities.

A key part of the technology transformation in DWP is the continual modernising of the technology platforms used by many of the department’s benefits processing and payments systems. To enable this, DWP is committed to building common application platforms, integrating solution and interfaces using the latest technologies, microservices and open APIs.

The new post will lead the transformation of digital services using the latest open technologies and agile methodologies and will be responsible for delivering reliable, secure, real time integration solutions and services using open APIs and micro-services.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering integrating solutions and services in a complex application environment as well as In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of a range of integration and the latest development technologies in large complex application environments.

Applications close on November 21.
